She was supposed to be a micro piglet but it turned out that Esther was anything but small. That little piggy grew and grew until she topped the scales at 600lbs. By then, of course, it was way too late–she’d already become part of the family…
I was not familiar with Esther the Wonder Pig and her vast Facebook following before hearing about the book but I can tell you that once I got onto her page I sat at my desk and looked at pig pictures and videos for longer than I’m comfortable admitting. There’s just something about seeing an enormous, white, pajama-clad pig nosing open a screen door and sauntering onto the deck that’s impossible not to love.
In the tradition of the very best stories about animals and the people who love them, Esther the Wonder Pig is Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter’s journey with this life-changing pet and how she’s touched others along the way. I dare you not to fall in love once you’ve seen and read about this giant pig with the personality to match.
Below are a handful of pictures that Steve and Derek shared with us, a couple of them are also included in the book. *Esther’s Facebook photos always have clever captions–the ones below are my own interpretations of the porcine poser.
Esther on Day 6 – petite little thing, isn’t she?
Hanging out in the kitchen. Everybody loves the kitchen, right?
Scrub-a-dub-dub, big pig in the tub
I have no words for this. It’s just so stinkin’ cute. ‘Nuff said.
Keeping cool in the dirt…my dog does this too only somehow he always seems dirtier than Esther appears to be in this picture.
