Looking for Alaska by John Green
Young adult books have transcended their humble beginnings to become a wildly popular category read by people far beyond their teens and twenties, and embraced by Hollywood in a big way. We love our YA, too and the time had come for us to put together the 100 Young Adult Books to Read in a Lifetime list. We wanted to include books that may not be classified as YA but that we think about as the titles we read–or wish we had–during that time of our lives.
The list has books that span decades and genres–everything from Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Donna Tartt’s The Secret History to Marissa Meyer’s cyberpunk Cinderella story, Cinder. And how could we have a list without Judy Blume’s young adult classic, Forever…!? The last twenty or years or so have been a gold mine of titles we wouldn’t want to live without–many of them the books that also brought YA to the masses, The Hunger Games and The Fault in Our Stars. Besides winning the 2015 Printz award, one of our 100, I’ll Give You the Sun, also has the special distinction of being chosen as the inaugural title for our brand new Amazon editors’ young adult book club. I could go on and on, but better that you get a look for yourself and see how many you’ve read and loved, too.
